To regrow the thin eyebrows of my youth, I turned to brow growth serums. Thankfully, my brows have filled in over the years. The stuff works, just see my before and after photos below. Every so often I like to try a different brand and I’m always on the lookout for new advancements and formulations. So, I recently researched the best, most recommended brow growth serums and pared down that list to the top six. PS, I’ve got a post on the best, most recommended lash growth serums too.
Note: Brow growth serums are not intended to be used on eyelashes (more on that below). So if you’re looking for a growth serum that can do double duty, I’ve included the four most recommended 2-in-1 growth serums that are safe to use on both brows and lashes below.

How Eyebrow Growth Serums Work
Eyebrow growth serums work by improving the health of your brow hairs and invigorating the hair follicles with ingredients known to promote hair growth and retention, such as biotin, peptides and natural oils – more on Ingredients To Look For later. Some of these ingredients encourage new growth during the anagen or active growing phase of the Brow Growth Cycle by stimulating the growth of healthier, thicker brow hairs.
Additionally, these serums can prolong the telogen or resting phase by strengthening existing brow hairs to reduce or prevent breakage so eyebrows take longer to shed. Retaining more brow hairs leads to fuller-looking eyebrows.
There are several OTC growth serums that also contain prostaglandins, lipids with hormone-like effects that work on a cellular level to stimulate hair follicle growth during the anagen phase (do not use if pregnant). I’ve noted its inclusion in the serum description below where applicable. Prostaglandins are sold as cosmetics and not FDA-approved, like Latisse, so use them with caution. Latisse, and its generic bimatoprost, are FDA approved for lashes only, not brows. Using it on your eyebrows is considered “off label” but it does work (I do it). Find out more about prostaglandins and other ingredients to look for in brow growth serums below.
I’m a believer! As you can see from my before and after photos, eyebrow growth serums do work. The before pic was taken in 2010 and the after in 2022.
The Best, Most Recommended Brow Growth Serums
To find the best brow-boosting serums, I read through countless articles on Byrdie, Cosmo, Elle, Health, Glamour, Good Housekeeping, Harpers Bazaar, InStyle, Marie Claire, Oprah, Prevention, Real Simple, Shape, Self, Women’s Health, Vogue, and Who What Wear. Phew! Then I sorted through the weeds of consumer reviews and pared down the list to the top six.
- RevitaLash Cosmetics RevitaBrow Advance Eyebrow Conditioner Serum
- Grande Cosmetics GrandeBROW Brow Enhancing Serum
- Vegamour GRO VegaBrow Eyebrow Volumizing Serum
- NeuLash NeuBROW Enhancing Serum
- RapidBrow Eyebrow Enhancing Serum
- Briogeo B. Well Organic + Cold-Pressed 100% Castor Oil
Note: Before using a new product on your face, do a patch test on the underside of your arm to make sure you won’t have an allergic reaction.
RevitaLash Cosmetics RevitaBrow Advanced Eyebrow Conditioner
RevitaBrow Advanced was THE most recommended brow growth serum. It was at or near the top of almost every beauty editor’s list. Accolades ranged from best volumizing, most conditioning, skin-friendly, non-irritating, and dermatologist recommended. It was one of Allure’s “Best of Beauty” Award Winners in 2022. And a dermatologist interviewed by Vogue said her patients tell her “This works faster than Latisse for their brows.”
This physician-developed formula features a proprietary BioPeptin Complex® that includes biotin, lipids, peptides, and green tea extract rich in panthenol to help condition, soften and strengthen brows to prevent breakage. Other natural ingredients nourish, smooth and condition brow hairs. RevitaBrow also contains Dechloro Dihydroxy Difluoro Ethylcloprostenolamide, a prostaglandin.*
Check out the impressive the before and after photos on Amazon where RevitaBrow has a 4.2-star rating from over 4,100 reviewers. One woman calls it a “miracle serum” and another says it “saved her brows.” The company claims noticeable results within 8 weeks of daily use.
RevitaBrow Advanced Eyebrow Conditioner is available in two sizes. The 1.5 ml tube provides an 8-week supply for $60 and the 3.0 ml is expected to last 4 months for $111. The prices are the same at both Amazon and the Dermstore. But you can save 15% on your order at the Dermstore by entering code BRONNA-R3 when you create an account.
Grande Cosmetics GrandeBROW Brow Enhancing Serum
The popular GrandeBROW Brow Enhancing Serum was rated Best Overall by some editors and others reported that its fast-acting formula excelled at creating thick, full eyebrows. Many said it works particularly well for thin, sparse brows.
Ophthalmologist-approved, GrandeBrow contains Isopropyl Cloprostenate (a prostaglandin*) and a blend of amino acids, antioxidants and vitamins to promote fuller-looking brows.
The proof is in the before and after photos posted by many people on Amazon, where over 5,000 reviewers have given GrandeBROW a 4.3-star rating. Available in two sizes, the 1.5 ml tube will last 8 weeks and the 3.0 ml for 4 months. Respectively, they cost $38 and $73 at both Amazon and the Dermstore. You can save 15% on your order at the Dermstore by entering code BRONNA-R3 when you create an account.
VEGAMOUR GRO Brow Serum
If you’re looking for a clean, vegan formula, VEGAMOUR GRO Brow Serum is the way to go. It’s also a good choice for those are pregnant or have sensitive skin. Editor ratings included Best Overall, Best Non-toxic and Best for Sensitive Skin.
Formulated with biotin, zinc and phyto-actives (i.e., from plants) and no synthetic hormones (no prostaglandins), VEGAMOUR GRO claims their natural ingredients will “extend the anagen hair growth phase and securely anchor hair follicles to prevent hair loss.”
Without prostaglandins, GRO Brow may take longer to work but several reviewers said the results were worth the wait. The company suggests applying the serum “twice daily for the first two months, then switching to once daily” for maintenance and predicts results within 30 days. The 3 ml tube sells for $72 on Amazon and $56 at Walmart.
NeuBROW Brow Enhancing Serum
NeuBROW by Skin Research Laboratories earned titles like Best with Biotin, Most Moisturizing, Best Vegan, and Best for Thinning Brows from beauty editors. This brow-enhancing serum is rich in biotin, peptides, proteins and vitamins, and contains the prostaglandin* Isopropyl Cloprostenate.
Ophthalmologist and dermatologist tested, neuBROW promises fuller, healthier-looking brows in 4-6 weeks. Users love it – one satisfied customer wrote, “I have tried many other products, including those more expensive and this works so much better than all. I’m a repeat purchaser and will continue. It works!”
NeuBrow sells for $85 at Bloomingdale’s (where reviewers give it 5 stars) and $90 at eCosmetics. It’s well-rated on Amazon but I don’t recommend purchasing it there because they’re not selling the new applicator, so I don’t know how old it is.
RapidBrow Eyebrow Enhancing Serum
RapidBrow is packed with proteins, peptides and other nourishing ingredients to promote healthier, fuller-looking eyebrows. Additionally, it contains Isopropyl Cloprostenate (a prostaglandin*) to encourage brow growth.
Hailed by editors for being the best for serious growth and non-irritating. One editor wrote, “You’ll notice healthier, fuller brows after you finish the first tube.” Another said, this “fast-acting formula contains all of the star ingredients that our derms say are most effective in growth serums.”
Ophthalmologist and dermatologist tested, RapidBrow is one of the more affordable brow serums. The 3 ml tube sells for $42.75 at Amazon (where there are good before and after photos) but a few people said they received expired or counterfeit products. So I suggest ordering from the Dermstore, where RapidBrow costs $49.95 and you can save 15% on your order by entering code BRONNA-R3 when you create an account, bringing the price down to $42.46.
Briogeo B. Well Organic + Cold-Pressed 100% Castor Oil
Castor oil is found in many brow and lash serums, but it can also be used alone as an all-natural alternative. Briogeo B. Well Organic + Cold-Pressed 100% Castor Oil is recommended by several beauty editors. Cosmo awarded it Best Castor Oil Eyebrow-Growth Serum and explained castor oil has “major protective properties that help fend off moisture loss that can lead to irritation, dryness, and inhibited hair growth.”
It has long been believed that castor oil has many health benefits, including hair growth. And why not, the oil is rich in proteins, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. Yet Healthline reports that there “are currently no published studies that test how castor oil affects eyebrow growth.” Adding, “However, there is evidence that ricinoleic acid — a chemical compound that makes up almost 90 percent of castor oil — may treat hair loss.”
While more scientific studies need to be done on the efficacy of castor oil for brow growth, users say they see the results. I recently started using Kate Blanc Cosmetics USDA Certified Organic 100% Pure Cold Pressed Castor Oil ($10) every other night to nourish my brows and surrounding skin since some serums can be drying. I find the castor oil keeps my eyebrows soft and healthy but I can’t speak to hair growth, at least not yet.
Apply castor oil to your brows after cleansing your face and applying your skincare. Place a small drop on the back of a clean hand and swirl a spoolie in the product. Brush through your brows being sure to get the oil through your eyebrows to your skin. I then twirl the spoolie through my lashes to coat them with any product remaining on the brush.
A 1.5 oz bottle of Briogeo B. Well castor oil is $40 at Amazon and $26 at the Dermstore, where is it out of stock as of this writing, so check back. And, as noted above, you can save 15% on your order at the Dermstore by entering code BRONNA-R3 when you create an account.
Double Duty Brow & Lash Growth Serums
Double Duty 2-in-1 Brow & Lash Growth Serums
If you’re looking for a growth serum that can do double duty, below are the four most recommended growth serums that are safe to use on both your brows and lashes. Because you should not use brow growth serum on your eyelashes (find out why below). None of the following contain prostaglandins*.
Pronexa Hairgenics Lavish Lash – Eyelash Growth Enhancer & Brow Serum
Lavish Lash is packed with peptides and biotin to promote hair growth. It appeared on almost every editor’s list of recommended growth serums and has over 28,000 reviews on Amazon where it sells for only $25. Marie Claire awarded it their Best Budget Pick, Vogue called it a Hidden Gem and other editors recommended it for those with sensitive skin.
Shiseido Full Lash and Brow Serum
Shiseido Full Lash and Brow Serum was also an editor favorite. Accolades included Best Multi-Tasking, Best Strengthening, and Best for Damaged Lashes. It’s formulated with Arginine, an amino acid that is essential for the production of keratin, the main protein in hair. It’s also moisturizing and helps restore the condition of lashes and brows. This double-duty serum sells for $36 at Bloomingdales.
Milk Makeup Kush Lash + Brow Enhancing Serum
Editors awarded this serum Best 2-in-1, Best for Both Brows and Lashes, Best CBD-Infused, Best Conditioning, and Best for Sensitive Skin. Peptides, biotin and vitamins work with “hemp-derived cannabis seed extract” to hydrate and condition lashes and brows, support healthy hair follicles and create the appearance of thicker lashes and brows. Milk Makeup Kush Lash + Brow Enhancing Serum sells for $50 on Amazon.
Augustinus Bader The Eyebrow and Lash Enhancing Serum
Called the Best Luxury Serum and Best Splurge, among other titles, try this 2-in-1 solution for loner lashes and fuller brows if you can get past the price tag ($150). This light, nourishing serum strengthens and revitalizes hair follicles while supporting natural growth. You can buy Augustinus Bader The Eyebrow and Lash Enhancing Serum at Bloomingdale’s or the Dermstore, where you can save 15% on your order by entering code BRONNA-R3 when you create an account.
Why You Should Not Use Brow Growth Serums On Your Lashes
You can use lash growth serums on your brows but you should not use brow-specific products on your lashes unless the product is clearly labeled and intended for both. Although lash and brow serums are both designed to promote hair growth, there are key differences between the two.
- Formulation: Lash serums are formulated to be gentle and safe for use around the eyes, while brow serums are typically formulated to be applied on the thicker skin of the eyebrows. As such, brow serums could irritate your eyes.
- Application: Lash serums are typically applied along the lash line with a small, thin brush while brow serums are applied directly onto the brows with a mascara-like wand, brush or soft tip applicator that enables you to get through the brow hairs to the skin. This is necessary for the product to get to the hair follicles.
More About Brow Growth Serums
Ingredients To Look For
Here are some important ingredients to look for in a brow growth serum:
- Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, which is what hair is made of. They help to strengthen hair follicles and promote new, healthy hair growth.
- Biotin is a B vitamin that is essential for hair growth. It helps to strengthen hair follicles and promote new growth.
- Hyaluronic acid helps hydrate and condition brow hairs so they stay healthy and resistant to breakage.
- Natural oils and extracts that promote hair growth and healthy brow hairs may include castor, cedarwood, coconut, tea tree, green tea, lavender, rosemary, tea tree, and other oils and minerals.
- Many oils, such as castor oil, also have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
- Panthenol, or Pro-Vitamin B5, is a multi-tasking ingredient long used in hair and nail products. It helps reduce breakage by making brow hairs softer and more elastic. It also moisturizes the skin and has anti-inflammatory capabilities, both of which protect the skin from other potentially irritating ingredients.
- Peptides are small proteins that help signal hair follicles to grow new hair, boost keratin production and lengthen the hair growth cycle. Peptides will be represented in the ingredients list under long names like Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3, Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1, and Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17 with Myristoyl Hexapeptide-16.
- *Prostaglandins are “lipids with hormone-like properties” that promote and extend the anagen growth phase of brow hairs, encouraging them to grow longer. Side effects can include dryness, itching, swelling, inflammation, and hyperpigmentation. Women who are pregnant should not use products that contain prostaglandins.
- Some of the more popular synthetic prostaglandins can appear in both lash and brow serums under the following names:
- Isopropyl Cloprostenate
- Isopropanol Phenyl-hydroxyl-pentene Dihydroxy-cyclopentyl-heptenate
- Dechloro Dihydroxy Difluoro Ethylcloprostenolamide
- Trifluoromethyl Dechloro Ethylprostenolamide
- Some of the more popular synthetic prostaglandins can appear in both lash and brow serums under the following names:
- Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate) is an essential vitamin that supports brow hair health.
Tips For Choosing & Applying A Brow Growth Serum
- Choose a serum that is specifically designed for eyebrows.
- Look for a serum that contains a variety of ingredients that are known to promote hair growth.
- Start with a small bottle of serum to see how your skin reacts. Do a patch test, as noted above.
- Apply the serum as directed. Be sure to work the serum through the brow hairs to your skin.
- Be consistent with your application, and be patient. It may take several months to see results.
What Happens If You Stop Using Brow Growth Serums
Nothing drastic happens if you stop using brow growth serum. Since the serum boosts your brows while you’re using it, your eyebrows will simply return to their normal growth cycle if you stop.
With regular use and patience, one of these growth serums will have you boasting about your boosted brows in no time. Please let me know which one worked for you.
