Nothing creates ambiance like music & lighting. Now you can have both on a budget & on the go with the wildly popular tiki-styled portable Bluetooth speaker. It plays music & has a flickering candle-like LED light to set the mood, indoors or out.
I discovered this handsome little tiki torch-looking speaker hanging from a tree while dining outdoors with friends. As soon as we saw it, my friends said I had to research it & share it on my blog.
So here it goes…
Tiki Lights With Music!
What I learned is the original speaker is called TikiTunes by Limitless Innovations & it sells for $40. You can buy two speakers to pair so you can listen to your music in stereo. A set of two speakers sells for $70. Both the single speaker & the pair are available on Amazon & Best Buy.
No surprise, there are a lot of knock-offs available. In fact, I found one that may be just as good, if not better: the DiKaou Flame Atmosphere Speaker. It is identical looking & functioning, except for some minor differences (noted below) & it promises “enhanced” base. It too sells for $40 on Amazon. But, for some bizarre reason, buying a pair costs $82, which makes no sense to me. You’d be better off buying two singles at $40 each.
The DiKaou caught my eye because it has more reviews than any of the other tiki-styled knock-offs, including the speaker I saw in the tree. TikiTunes has 4.5 stars from almost 1,500 ratings on Amazon but the DiKaou speaker has 4.5 stars from over 3,400, which is what made me dig deeper. Plus, I like offering options.
Design
- As you can see, both speakers look more like a tiki torch top than a speaker, which is part of its appeal. In fact, if you really want the full tiki torch effect, you can purchase in-ground stakes that range from 8 – 40 inches tall to mount your speakers on. There is a ¼ inch threaded mount in the bottom of the speaker where the stake base goes, see pix below.
- The TikiTunes in-ground stakes come cleverly packaged with five 8-inch pole sections, one of which is a pointed stake that goes in the ground. You then add additional poles inserts to build the stake to the desired height (max 4 feet) & top it off with the ¼ inch threaded adapter that screws into the bottom of the TikiTunes speaker. The set of adjustable ground stakes sells for $15 on Amazon. I’m sure this would work with the DiKaou speakers as well since it too has a ¼ inch thread in it’s base. You can save $5 by buying the TikiTunes speaker bundled with the in-ground stakes for $50 on Amazon or Best Buy.
- DiKaou has a mini tripod stand you can buy for $13 on Amazon. It too has a standard ¼ inch mounting screw so it would be compatible for use with the TikiTunes, as well as a GoPro or other camera.
- If you’re super anal about keeping your tiki speaker safe in transit, I found this protective hard carrying case for $13 on Amazon.
- Lastly, if you prefer to hang your your speaker, which is how I saw them – hanging in a tree – you can use a 1/4-20 x 2-5/16 inch J-Bolt for $6. Or, I found these great 1/4″ stainless steel D-rings, 2 for $7, that will screw into the threaded adapter at the bottom of the speaker & then you can use these S-hooks (package of 12 for $7) to hang your speakers. Either way, the speaker will be upside down. The S-hooks happen to come in handy for lots of things. I use them to hang lanterns in my patio tent.
- Dimensions: Both speakers are 6.5 inches tall by 4 inches wide & weighs less than a pound
Functionality
- Both speakers can be paired with any Bluetooth-enabled device (iPhone/iPad/Android)
- Both have a 5 watt speaker
- Both speakers have a rechargeable battery that charge via an included Micro USB cable.
- A full charge on the TikiTunes will give you 6-hours of continuous play time, if not more; while the DiKaou says it will play for 7.5 – 8 hours
- Pair two like speakers for stereo sound – up to a max distance of 30 feet for TikiTunes, 33 feet for DiKaou
- Both speakers have an LED flame that provides a flickering ambient light, which you can turn off
- Both speakers have LED lighted controls on top of the speaker
- Both speakers are water & dust resistant, making either an excellent choice for the beach or park
Reviewers Feedback
As I mentioned above, the TikiTunes speaker has 4.5 stars from almost 1,500 ratings on Amazon but the DiKaou speaker has 4.5 stars from over 3,400 reviewers! Most people love both speakers & almost everyone commented that they love the flickering light.
Based on the countless reviews I read, the DiKaou speaker owners noted they were impressed with the sound quality. While those who own a TikiTunes speaker said the sound quality is good, not great. But seriously, how much sound quality can one expect from a $40 portable speaker? Let’s be real folks. It’s cute, kitschy, portable, water resistant, & inexpensive. It’s win-win to me. If you want big sound, you’re going to pay a bigger price. But that’s a topic for a another post.
Please let me know if you get one of these cool speakers & how you like it.
