How many times have you gotten white stick deodorant, makeup, powder, or toothpaste on a dark top or dress just before leaving the house? Too many to count, I know. So I thought I’d share this clever little product I’ve been using for years. It’s a rubbery sponge referred to as a Garment Deodorant Remover. It’s a simple and inexpensive way to remove white stains from dark clothing, and not just deodorant.
How To Use It
To remove a white stain from dark clothing, use the sponge wet or dry and, unlike a paper towel or washcloth, it won’t leave behind lint or fuzz (see the before and after pix below). Begin by carefully removing any excess product from clothes, such as pieces of deodorant, globes of toothpaste or makeup, and shake off excess powder.
First, try using the sponge dry to gently buff out the stain. If the offending stain remains, dampen the sponge with water and squeeze out the excess before gently buffing the stain again. Always go with the grain of the fabric, don’t rub vigorously to avoid fraying the fibers. Do not use the sponge on silk.
The sponge works on more than just white stains. I’ve had brown makeup, outside dirt and blue toothpaste on colored clothing that the sponge removed. It also works on furniture and car upholstery, as well as on pet hair and lint by rolling them into an easy-to-remove ball.
The stain removing sponge is simple to use since you don’t need water and inexpensive enough that you can keep one handy at home, work, school, on vacation, and even in the car. Why not? I keep a Tide pen in my glove compartment. I have a Gal Pal sponge in my bedroom and one in my travel toiletry bag. I’ve also purchased them for my daughters so they each have their own.
Get It
Several companies make white deodorant stain removing sponges now, but I’ve only used the original by Gal Pal. Their round pinkish sponges are about three inches in diameter and 5/8″ thick. They have a slightly rubbery feel, not like a kitchen sponge. And they last forever. I’ve had my old Gal Pal sponges since 2017 (see pic below). Hollywood Fashion Secrets makes a thin rectangular one. Men might prefer the gray sponges by Skid Out. Most guys probably don’t want a pink sponge falling out of their gym bag.
Whichever one you choose, these little sponges pack a big punch when it comes to removing white and other light-colored stains from dark clothing.
