Why You Want a Magnetic Screen Door Curtain

This clever product is life-changing. The magnetic screen door curtain simplifies entertaining outdoors – no more juggling platters of food while opening and closing the sliding screen door. Plus, it’s the most inexpensive doggy door ever made!

We love when spring arrives because we can leave the sliding door open so our dog Cosmo can let himself in and out through the magnetic screen (see video below). But when winter returns and the sliding door stays closed, we’re back to being at Cosmo’s bark and call.

The magnetic screen door curtain may seem a little tacky at first, like an “As Seen On TV” item. But this thing is honestly one of my favorite finds. I’ve had so many friends see it at my house and ask me to send them the link. The screen is very easy to put up and take down since it attaches around the door frame with velcro.

I purchased my Magnet Screen Door in the summer of 2020 and it’s still in perfect condition. In fact, we were too lazy to take it down the last two winters and it still looks brand new. Get The Screen Size & Magnetic Opening Right

Sizing

When measuring your door opening, be mindful of where you will be affixing the velcro. Remember, you want the magnetic screen curtain to cover the entire door opening, especially if you’re attaching the velcro to the outer door frame (see images below). You’ll also want the screen to be long enough to hang over or graze the bottom of the door frame so bugs don’t get in. Then carefully check the measurements of the screen you order and note where the magnetic screen door opening is.

Opening

Magnetic screen doors have their magnetic closures in the center or off-center. Larger screens intended for double French doors and sliding doors may have two magnetic closures, see below.

Some magnetic screen door curtains come with tie-backs or snap-backs so you can swag the screen panels back, like curtains. Now you see why I call them curtains. Tips for Hanging & Using a Magnetic Screen Door Curtain:

• Be mindful of where the magnetic screen door opening is when measuring and ordering. This is especially important when ordered for sliding glass doors. You want the opening to be in the center of where you walk in and out. Or off-center so it’s closer to where the sliding door opens.
• If the magnets aren’t lining up or coming together easily, there are two things you can try:
  • Raise the top of the screen curtain frame above the magnetic opening slightly higher on the velcro.
  • Check that the side panels are not pulled too taut so they don’t keep the magnets from meeting freely.
• If the bottom of the screen is hanging away from your door, try adding a small square velcro at the bottom outer corners.
• To use the magnetic screen as a dog (or cat) door, you might need to do some training. My sweet Cosmo is very respectful of boundaries. We would encourage him to push through the opening with treats. His sister figured it out in a hot minute. Once Cosmo saw her do it, he picked it right up.
