Spoiled by home deliveries during the pandemic? Me too. And what could be better than getting your favorite wine & spirits delivered to your front door? So I’ve got two great recommendations for you: Scout & Cellar and Moderne Barn Wine & Spirits.
Scout & Cellar
My husband & I were hanging with friends recently, sitting around their fire pit, & they were serving the most delicious red wine. So, being the curious type, of course, I asked to see the bottle & demanded to know where they’d gotten it so I could procure some for myself. The wine was Bookbinder’s Apprentice 2nd Edition from Scout & Cellar but it’s not sold in stores, more on that in a bit (or jump down if you can’t wait). Lucky for me, our friends had just bought a case so I begged them to sell me two bottles of Bookbinder until I could buy my own.
After doing some research (you knew that I would), I learned that Scout & Cellar is a progressive wine company selling “clean crafted” wines that they source from all over the world. Scout & Cellar works only with grape-growers & producers who share their ideology. They also put their wines through independent lab tests to be certain they’re free of chemical additives, synthetic pesticides & contain less than 100ppm of total sulfites (just FYI, that’s low, as the FDA allows up to 350ppm). In addition to sourcing wines from organic producers, Scout & Cellar also produces their own labels. The result of all their “scouting” are wines that are all natural, vegan, Keto-friendly, & delicious.
While perusing their website, one thing I really liked was the way Scout & Cellar tells you about each wine & the vineyard it came from. They describe the wine, the notes, what foods it will pair well with, the alcohol content, & amount of residual sugar.
I knew I had to get me some. So I got the Scout & Cellar contact info from my friend & spoke with Sorelle Marsico (my “consultant”), who was very knowledgeable about all things Scout & Cellar. We got to talking & I agreed to try two reds & two whites in exchange for my honest opinion on my blog.
The following week, my wine arrived! The first thing that struck me when I opened the box, aside from my excitement, was the recyclable packaging material. No bubble-wrap or Styrofoam peanuts flying around – I appreciate the little things. I confess I am also a sucker for appealing labels & clever names. Yes, I know this has nothing to do with how the wine will taste but, in my head, I kinda feel like it does – just as artfully plated food appeals to your eye before your palate.
After a not so formal wine tasting, my husband & I agreed, we liked them all. With spring almost here, we’re thinking of trying a bottle of rosé & some spritzers, which comes in cans & starts at $17 for a 4-pack. The cans would be great for the beach this summer. The red, white & rosé wines range in price from $16-$35 per bottle, & there are gift sets available as well.
If you want to try Scout & Cellar for yourself, please use this link. I won’t earn a commission on your purchases but if enough of you fellow wine-lovers make purchases, I might get a discount on a future purchase. Until then, we will all receive 5% off when we purchase 6 bottles/cans & 10% off with the purchase of 12 or more – no codes needed.
Get Scout & Cellar Delivered
Ground shipping is free on orders over $99. They ship via FedEx to every state except Arkansas, Delaware, Mississippi, Rhode Island & Utah. And, of course, they cannot ship to a P.O. Box. The cost of shipping may change in the summer when Scout & Cellar uses a proprietary cold chain shipping process to maintain the integrity of their wine.
If you’d like to have wine show up at your door every month or every three months (who wouldn’t), Scout & Cellar does have a wine club. It’s free to join & you can adjust or cancel your subscription at any time. When you set up your membership, you can choose to receive as many bottles in as many varietals as you like & you select the delivery schedule. I mention the club because some of the wines on their site are Circle Club Exclusives & not available a la carte, which is a little annoying (to me). But the prices are fixed & affordable, so the club could be a good fit for you. Just know that you do not need to join the club to order their a la carte wines.
Moderne Barn Wine & Spirits
If you prefer to have spirits at your door, not the scary halloween variety, you can order from Moderne Barn Wine & Spirits. In addition to a large variety of widely known wine labels, Moderne Barn carries a sweeping supply of spirits that include fine & rare finds as well as kosher options.
Moderne Barn Wine & Spirits is owned by certified Wine Specialist, Diana Fisher. She doesn’t put anything on her shelves without tasting it first, so she knows her inventory well. If you tell Diana what types of wine you like & what you’ll be serving your wine with, she will recommend the perfect bottle because not only does Diana know wine, but she is a consummate cook. In fact, she even has recipes on the Moderne Barn website with videos &, of course, perfectly paired wine suggestions. I always find Diana & her staff knowledgable & helpful.
The Moderne Barn website is very user friendly. You can search & sort by region, varietal, wine, spirits, even by food pairing. Another thing I like is their loyalty program: Vino Points & Rewards. The more you buy, the more points you earn to apply towards future purchases.
